Steadfast Group member
Local broker. National muscle.
Coromandel Insurance Services is a member of Steadfast, the largest general insurance broker network in Australasia. We own our business and make our own recommendations. Steadfast gives us the buying power, the policy wordings and the insurer access of a firm a hundred times our size. You get both.
What Steadfast is
Steadfast was founded in 1996 by a group of independent brokers who wanted the scale to negotiate with insurers without giving up their independence. It has grown into the largest broker network in Australasia and one of the top 20 insurance broking groups in the world. In New Zealand it took over the country's second largest broker network in 2014, and the New Zealand arm has since become the only broker network here that is still growing while the large corporate brokers consolidate and close offices.
A member firm like ours stays independently owned. Steadfast does not own us, does not tell us which insurer to use, and does not sell insurance itself. It negotiates on behalf of 419 firms at once, builds the technology we quote and place cover on, and writes the policy wordings we use. We pay a membership fee and in return our clients get terms that a two-office brokerage on the Coromandel could never negotiate alone.
What it means for you
Broader cover, same price
Steadfast negotiates its own exclusive policy wordings with the major insurers. They are broader than the insurers' standard wordings, with higher sub-limits and fewer exclusions, and they are what most of our business, house and contents policies are written on. When you see a code starting with the insurer's name and "Steadfast" on your schedule, that's why.
Every major insurer, one platform
The Steadfast Client Trading Platform lets us put your risk to NZI, Vero, QBE, Ando, Chubb, Delta, DUAL, AIG and others at the same time and compare the answers side by side. For a recent commercial client we tested six insurers in a single day. No scheme, no tied insurer, no panel that business has to flow to.
Buying power
$13.2 billion of premium gives Steadfast a seat at the table with every insurer and reinsurer that matters. Insurers compete for Steadfast business, and the terms, the claims service standards and the capacity that come with that flow through to a client in Thames or Whangamata exactly as they do to one in Auckland or Sydney.
Claims back-up
Most claims we run ourselves. For the difficult ones, Steadfast provides triage support and a direct line to insurers' senior claims people, which is how a declined claim becomes a paid one. Our principal spent nine years running claims for insurers; Steadfast makes sure the door is open when he knocks.
Specialist markets
Steadfast Underwriting Agencies is the largest agency group in Australasia, with 20 agencies and about 100 products for risks the mainstream insurers avoid: aviation, marine, liability for unusual trades, high-value homes, cyber and more. We have placed Coromandel aircraft, boats and businesses through them.
Technology that works for you
Steadfast's broking and client systems are among the best in Australasia, which is why a growing list of brokers has joined the network in the last three years. It means faster quotes, accurate documents, and more of our time spent talking to you rather than typing.
Scale matters when you negotiate with an insurer. Through Steadfast we have it, without the overheads, the call centres or the distance.
Why it matters more now
The broking market in New Zealand is splitting in two. The global firms are consolidating: Aon has stopped handling home, contents, car and boat insurance for everyday clients and refers them to a direct insurer, and has been closing regional offices, including Whitianga. Gallagher, the largest broker in the country, runs its own facilities and schemes. The direct insurers are pushing everyone else to an 0800 number and an app.
Steadfast members are going the other way. The network has added about 20 New Zealand brokerages in a single year and keeps growing. We have grown from one office and 900 clients in 2020 to 2,400 clients, three offices and a team of nine, and we are recruiting. The combination of a local owner who runs your file and a national network behind them is the model that is winning clients, and it is the one we are built on.
What's changing at Steadfast
In August 2026 Steadfast agreed to be bought by a consortium led by Amwins, the world's largest wholesale insurance broker, with completion expected in December 2026. For member brokers and their clients the practical effect is more capacity and more specialist markets, particularly from the United States and London, not less. Our membership, our ownership and the way we look after you do not change. If anything about the arrangement affects your cover, you will hear it from us first.
Figures: Steadfast Group results for the year to 30 June 2026 and Steadfast New Zealand published information, October 2026. Network premium and member numbers are as reported by Steadfast.
